Week 7 Neurosci + Art
Neuroscience and Art |
Although art and neuroscience go together, after this week's material, I found the combination very interesting. With the visualization and creativity seen of all types of art, neuroscience helps your brain see it in many different angles. Neuroscience “the
structure or function of the nervous system and brain.” But, I believe
neuroscience and art helps us appreciate the development of how our mind controls
our emotions.
One of the interesting topics from this week’s
lesson was how the brain reacts to certain drugs. In Professor Vesna’s lecture,
I found it really intriguing that the drug LSD can design visual illusions,
hallucinations of the outside world. This all ties into art and neuroscience
because it creates outrageous colors and different shapes of the objects around
you. For example, back in the day LSD was a popular drug and a baseball pitcher
named Dock Ellis threw a no-hitter on LSD.
Another interesting topic is dreams. Dreams are
a rapid eye movement that travels you through time and space. I really liked
the quote that Professor Vesna’s said about dreams, “if it’s possible in real
like it is possible in your dreams.” The two men that brought unconscious and
dreaming to be true is the geologist, Sigmund Freud, and philosopher, Friedrich
Schelling.
Dreaming |
Overall,
I learned that neuroscience and art create many unique illusions of life
through drugs, dreaming and many more. This week’s material helped me understand
the mind and brain and how it controls everything you see and do.
