The English
author and physicist Charles Percy Snow wrote the idea of “Two Cultures”, which
debated the difference of literary and science intellectuals. This debate
argued many voices between non-scientist and scientist. In Snow’s novel
he states that when science was taking over literary intellectuals believed that literature was the leading subject. I believe that both
non-scientist and scientist make arguments and counter-arguments about both
sides in the world we live in today.
Brockman, who wrote the novel “Third Culture”,
described his ideas of technology about art and science. His ideas show that
humans display us how we live between conversations, which relates to his main
idea of art and science.
These
ideas of the two cultures relate to myself and to all of UCLA because we live
in one of the most cultured cities in the world, Los Angeles. One of our most
popular sports on campus basketball shows the art and science in every single
play. The art is how each player on the court shoots their jump shot and the
science is the angles of each shot from when it releases its hand until it goes
into the basket. The art of science of basketball brings in the "third culture" and how they come together to make shots.
This
perspective changes my views because I am Christian and Jewish. Going to school
in Los Angeles they’re many beliefs and people make comments that you’re not
cool if you're Jewish because you don’t celebrate Christmas. This relates to the
idea of “two cultures” because I have two beliefs but I celebrate both holidays,
which creates the “third culture.”
The
idea of “two cultures” benefits me at UCLA and many other areas in my life; going to school and playing sports. This eventually leads to the “third culture.” This displays that these two types
of cultures create peace for the world and for myself.

Good insight on this topic! I agree with your explanation of the art and sciences behind basketball. I explained in my blog the art and sciences behind baseball, and how it is more than just a sport. I also agree with your first paragraph, explaining how artist and scientist go hand in hand, complimenting each other. Good job and i look forward reading your future blogs!
